Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that North York is the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, the Haudenosaunee and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River.
We also acknowledge that this territory is the subject of the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant. This is a treaty between the Anishinaabe, the Mississaugas and the Haudenosaunee that bound them to share the territory and protect the land.
Subsequent Indigenous nations and peoples, settlers and all newcomers have been invited into this treaty in the spirit of peace, friendship and respect.
We all eat from the Dish with One Spoon and we share the responsibility to ensure the dish is never empty.
